The VX6 line of riflescopes are the best scopes made for sportsmen on the planet. The VX6 series is the premium line of high-quality optics from Leupold. They include lightweight stalking models with tiny objective bells that gather unbelievable amounts of light to huge varmint hunting rigs that you could hit the moon with.
Leupold VX6 Review
The VX6 line up of scopes is for a certain customer, mainly because of cost. These scopes aren’t at all cheap or inexpensive. As a whole, they represent the best available features for casual shooting and especially hunting scopes on the market.
At their forefront is dead-on simplicity and dead tough ruggedness. These things just won’t break. They’re made of aircraft-grade aluminum bodies and steel components where strength is needed. All the models are easy to use because of the well thought out and tactile knobs on the scope.
The few models with extended turrets and parallax adjustment are well marked and they all can be used with Leupold’s custom dial turrets for dead on shooting. This scope is for shooters who can really appreciate and afford, exquisite glass or the professional guide who wants a reliable scope for doing business.
- Incredible 6x zoom ratio for extreme flexibility
- Incredibly bright and clear glass
- Butter smooth turrets
- The fit and finish is among the best, including scopes that are 3x the price
- Heavier than other scopes
Xtended Twilight Lens System- Essentially this is a technology for extending your hunting time past sunset by gathering and focusing light better than other scopes can. In practice, this scope stays cleaner longer with less eye fatigue than other scopes.
Diamond Coat 2- A darn tough coating Leupold puts onto the exterior of its high-end scopes. It works like a silky smooth Duracoat that prevents corrosion, resists scratching and won’t ever fade.
2nd Generation Argon/Krypton Waterproofing- an updated way to keep out water and fog. It may be magic it works so well but for the price, it fits the whole package and the new technology adds a level of confidence that is tangible while in the field.
6:1 Zoom Ratio- An awesome 6:1 zoom ratio that makes it possible to have a scope that’ll cover 0- 750 yards, unlike any other scope. But it also makes the whole package much heavier.
Pop-Up Re-zero Adjustments- If you use turrets a lot you know what these are and how well they work. Essentially a mechanism that makes it easy to re-zero the turrets without having to read the dial and count each revolution.
Blackened Lens Edges – A finishing touch that helps in the field with fatigue and keeping the blur and glare down at high magnification.
Extreme Fast-Focus Eyepiece – This is nice for action shooting and kind of a hunting specific feature that makes it easier to dial in on an animal quickly and with less adjustments.
CDS Custom Dial System – You can specify your loading and get a custom dial set up so you can eliminate hold over when shooting at game.
VX-6 1-6x24mm CDS
This is perhaps the absolute best stalking scope in the world. This scope takes all of the best features of the VX6 line of scopes and makes it miniature. This scope is home atop all kinds of lightweight carbines from ar15’s to Marlin 336’s .
The 24mm objective bell is the same diameter as the body tube and can be mounted super low and far from the eye for situational awareness and a good solid cheek weld. This is the main reason this scope is such a great piece of equipment; this scope is tiny but with features most full-sized scopes don’t do as well.
The 24mm objective bell gathers light far better than you’d expect and delivers in low light bush just as well as noon time daylight.
VX-6 2-12x42mm CDS Illuminated Reticle
This is the “all arounder” for the VX-6 scope line up. It offers the most useful magnification range, a field effective reticle and an illuminated reticle ready for the deer blind or steel shootout. The 2x power is great because it has a huge field of view and feels like a true 1x power but dials all the way up to 12x power with the flick of the dial.
This scope is pretty heavy but if you have a dedicated tree stand gun or ground blind rifle that needs to shoot for a long, long way then this is your scope.
VX-6 7-42X56mm Side Focus Target
This is a huge target and long-range shooting scope. It has all the features of the VX-6 line up a side focus knob for quick adjustments and a whopping 7-42x power magnification range. The only real place for this is on heavy, long, thick barreled rifles that shoot heavy calibers very far for sport. It excels at this and does it for a premium price.
I don’t believe in extended range hunting so I refuse to recommend a scope for shooting game at 700 yards but this is a common scope style for that kind of sport.
Using a rifle scope opens up so many possibilities for rifle hunting that can only happen with magnified optics. Using a scope simplifies the aiming process and allows you to shoot faster, shoot further, and makes shoot generally easier.
If you’re ready to take advantage of the bests scopes on the market the VX-6 rifle scope is here. It’s offered in over a dozen different flavors and comes from the premium American rifle manufacturer. This is Leupold’s most premium rifle scope for sportsmen and has features normally reserved for tactical high-end scopes.
From reading this Leupold VX6 review you can see just how awesome this line of scopes are. The VX6 will do almost anything well, albeit heavier and slightly bulkier than others, but do it with extreme quality that few scopes can match.
