In January of this year, the Utah DNR released information in regard to the growing population of black bears in the state. This has resulted in many human and black bear conflicts, which the Utah Division of Natural Resources would like to curtail. Still, the population has more than doubled in just the past 15 years. This is good for black bear hunters since it means that there are more opportunities available for hunters to harvest black bears, but the DNR has also recently issued a reminder to everyone who might be inclined to hunt for black bears in Utah in 2020.
If you are a hunter and have been thinking about getting your permit to hunt black bears in Utah, you’d better hurry. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has released a reminder to bear hunters that you must submit an application for a permit no later than March 2, 2020. Thankfully, the Utah DNR has worked hard to make this a lot easier for the hunters.
Black bear hunting permit requirements:
Prior to submitting an application for the bear hunting permit, you also need to go through the online bear orientation course, which is offered online . The application for a black bear hunting permit is also made online.
Deadline for black bear hunting permit:
In order to be considered for the 2020 black bear lottery, the application must be completed and in by 11:00 pm on Monday night, March second. Results of the Utah black bear draw will be posted by March 13, 2020.
Black bear hunting bonus points:
Additionally, applications for bonus points are available online from the Utah DNR, at the same web page as that for applying for the black bear hunting permit and these also should be turned in by 11 pm on March 2. Bonus points increase your chances in the lottery for the bear hunting permit and the application can be turned in even if you don’t intend to hunt black bears this year.
Big game hunting permit application:
Hunters can also apply for permits for big game while they are at it, since they are offered on the same page. For the big game hunting permit, however, you have until 11 pm on March 5, 2020. Still, it would be worthwhile to submit both at the same time. Big game bonus point applications will be accepted until March 29.
Utah 2020 black bear guidebook:
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources also has the 2020 Utah black bear guidebook available for download, too. It doesn’t get a lot easier than this to get the information you need for a successful bear hunting season.
